Rail Plus Relaunches Popular Norwegian Tours

Thursday, 08 June 2017

Rail Plus has relaunched their popular Norwegian Tours, ‘Norway in a Nutshell’, ‘Hardangerfjuord in a Nutshell’ and ‘Sognefjord in a Nutshell’.

Commercial Director, Ingrid Kocijan, says Scandinavia is no doubt becoming more and more popular among Aussie and Kiwi travellers thanks to the region’s untouched nature, cruise options and of course, its accessibility to observe the Aurora Borealis. The company’s year-on-year records show Scandinavian Pass bookings increased by a whopping 46% in 2016 with no signs of slowing down this year or next.

“These tours have been specially designed to give travellers the opportunity to soak up some of the country’s most impressive highlights in a short time frame.”

One of the most popular tours, ‘Norway in a Nutshell’ offers travellers a combination of spectacular train, boats and bus rides, and a choice of experiencing the majestic fjords on a 2-hour traditional Classic or 1.5-hour high speed Premium boat journey.

With five itineraries on offer, travellers can choose from one and two-day trips as well as one-way trips in their preferred direction of travel. A major part of the tour is the rail journeys on both the Flam on Bergen railways, considered as two of the most scenic train rides in the world. Prices for ‘Norway in a Nutshell’ start at AU$151 / NZ$164 for adults and AU$79 / NZ$85 for children between four and 15 years old.

Nature lovers will be in for a treat with the ‘Sognefjord in a Nutshell’ tour, which combines a scenic boat journey with a spectacular train journey on the Flam Railway. Another highlight of this tour is getting up close to the rugged Sognefjord, the country’s longest and deepest fjord stretching more than 200 km.

All three itineraries of the tour operate throughout the year with return trips available from both Bergen and Oslo. Prices start at Au$204 / NZ$222 for adults and AU$105 / NZ$114 for children.

Finally, ‘Hardangerfjord in a Nutshell’ is a tour to the Queen of the Fjords or Hardanger, Norway's second largest fjord, nestled against the backdrop of snow-covered peaks and cascading waterfalls. The round trip includes a train journey on the Bergen Railway line, a boat cruise on the fjord and a coach tour through traditional farmland and villages of Western Norway.

Operating year-round, travellers can go opt for return trips from Bergen and Oslo or go one-way from Bergen. Prices start at AU$267 / NZ$291 for adults and AU$167 / NZ$182 for children.
