TranzAlpine : Prices / Book

One of the world's great train journeys

Travelling coast to coast through forests and farmland and over the spectacular Southern Alps

The TranzAlpine operates a daily return service between Christchurch and Greymouth.

From the comfort of world class carriages, passengers will see the fields of the Canterbury Plains and farmland, followed by the spectacular gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River. The train then climbs into the majestic Southern Alps to Arthurs Pass National Park, before descending through lush beech rainforest to the West Coast town of Greymouth, a great base for visits to Punakaiki and the always-popular glaciers.

One-way fares can be found below. For return or through-way fares please contact us.

Omoto Slip update - Bus replacements until 22nd Nov, 2019

The Omoto Slip just out of Greymouth has forced the closure of the rail line between Arthurs Pass and Greymouth since late August.  While remedial works are continuing, the scale of the work to be done is much larger than originally anticipated.  As a result, we anticipate bus replacement services between Arthurs Pass and Greymouth to continue for a further two to three weeks.

Bus replacements will be operating up to and including Friday 22nd November 2019.

The TranzAlpine journey will continue through to Greymouth, with the train operating between Christchurch and Arthurs Pass, and a bus replacement service for those continuing to Moana or Greymouth (and vice versa).
